What is The Cabbage Soup Diet?

The cabbage soup diet is a 7 day meal plan promising an abrupt weight loss to more than 10 pounds after the diet program. Rumor has it that the cabbage soup diet plan originated from several hospitals, thus having known to some as "Sacred Heart Hospital Diet" and "Mayo Clinic Diet".

During the duration of the Cabbage Soup Diet, the person dieting should avoid drinking alcohol and sweetened juices. There are also specific food to take like, fruits, skim milk, meat and vegetables. Drinking plenty of water is highly advisable. Of course, just to be very sure, before hopping to any kind of diet, you should consult first your doctor if this kind of diet plan is okay for you. Find out if you have allergies to any food on the cabbage soup diet.

This diet plan is strictly a meal plan. There are no recommendations as to exercise or any physical fitness activities. As a seven day meal plan, it is not advisable to extend the program for more than a week because obviously this is supposed to be a crash diet program good for crash weight loss results and not intended for long term food regimen.

The Cabbage Soup diet plan has different variations, from books and magazines. As many other diet plans, here are some Pros and Cons of the Cabbage Soup Diet.

Pros: You can lose those fat fast (obviously the very purpose of every crash dieters) and you can eat as much food as you want so long as it is not excluded from the diet plan. You are not advised to cheat but if you insist (it's not like someone's going to find out) you can cheat provided it's a healthy cheat, like protein and fiber rich food.

Cons: Exercising may be a little bit hard for this plan because during the entirety of the diet plan, you consume too little calories leading to sluggishness. Very low calorie results to very low energy necessary for an enjoyable and possible exercise. Also, you have to prepare for a noticeable increase in gas (if you know what I mean). This diet plan will increase your sodium intake which will have bad effects to your health.

Here is a sample of the Cabbage Soup Diet plan.

1st Day

You can eat as many soups as you want. Soup is the key during this day. You can eat whatever fruit you want and as many as you want just don't include Banana. No Banana. Did I say No Banana? Yes, no Banana. You can drink cranberry juice, black coffee and water.

2nd Day You can eat as much soup as you like. You are not allowed to eat fruits today. You can have vegetables, have it cooked or you can eat it raw. You can have potato as a reward for today.

3rd Day

You can eat as much cabbage soup as you want. Say no to Potato. You can also have a combination of fruits and vegetables you had from 1st day to 2nd day.

4th Day

You can have as much cabbage soup as you want. You can splurge on 8 pieces of Bananas and you should not exceed 2 glasses of milk (skimmed).

5th Day

Have as much cabbage soup as you want. You can have a maximum of 20 ounces of chicken or fish. You can also consume up to 6 fresh tomatoes. Drink at least 8 glasses of water today.

6th Day

You can have unlimited consumption of cabbage soup. Today you can have three beef steaks. Yeah baby, BEEF Steak. And of course, have as many vegetables as you want.

7th Day

You can eat as much cabbage soup as you want. You can have up to 3 cups of brown rice. Have as many unsweetened juices. Splurge on your vegetables.
